The Fisheries Law Centre welcomes volunteers to join our team

Editor-in-Chief, The Fisheries Law Blog

The successful candidate  will solicit contributions; manage and edit content; produce and publish final work; electronically distribute final publications; and interact on social media. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the publication.

The successful candidate is ideally a law student or a journalism background with experience in an editorial capacity at a law review or online blog and posses excellent writing skills.

 

Social Media Coordinator

  • Maintain accounts on social media platforms including but not limited to: Twitter, Youtube, blogging on our site (aiding with our Facebook page secondary)
  • Must maintain consistent and relevant information and updates on social media sites
  • Increase followers through regular updates and news on current events
  • Define target audience and outreach metrics for social media outlets
  • Provide regular updates via email and notify the Director of any challenges with respect to the strategic goals

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms
  • Experience updating social media information
  • High degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and clients
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of organization in a fast-paced environment

 

Conference Coordinator

  • Develop and maintain contacts with conference organizers world-wide
  • Seek out new conferences that will enhance FLC’s exposure and reach new audiences
  • Maintain a database of conferences with due dates of proposal submissions
  • Main point of contact for conference organizers

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheet creation and maintenance
  • Ability to speak in a professional manner with conference organizers and staff
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Familiar with conference organization and proposal submission

 

Communications Coordinator

  •  Develop a list of potential articles for newsletters and website
  • Maintain MailChimp account and add new contacts after events, etc.
  • Maintain the info email address and forward to relevant members
  • Maintain an updated list of media contacts
  • Maintain an updated list of contacts for newsletter
  • Update website with new content, graphics, events, media, and structural changes as required
  • Moderate the website for comments or feedback and bring to the team or change accordingly
  • Maintain Communications-related files in the Communications folder on an online platform
  • Provide regular updates via email and notify the Director of any challenges with respect to the strategic goals

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of email applications
  • Experience updating website information
  • High degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and clients
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of organization in a fast-paced environment

 

 

PR Coordinator

  • Liaise with media contacts
  • Liaise with media firms; there will be opportunities to write press releases and advisories for stories and events that are media worthy
  • Provide regular updates via email and notify the Director of any challenges with respect to the strategic goals

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of public relations role in an organization
  • Experience working with media entities
  • Experience writing press releases, blogs, news articles, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate FLC’s mission to outside interests
  • High degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and clients
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of organization in a fast-paced environment

 

Graphic Design Coordinator

  • Design and develop communications material for the organization such as brochure, website, annual report, posters, and official templates for FLC documentation
  • To set and maintain FLC’s Graphic Standards (ie. logo, colors, font, etc.)
  • To liaise with printers for completion of all FLC materials
  • Maintain Design and Marketing-related files in the Communications folder on an online platform
  • Provide regular updates via email and notify the Director of any challenges with respect to the strategic goals

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of graphic design software
  • Experience creating brochures, reports, templates, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate FLC’s mission to outside interests
  • High degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and clients
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of organization in a fast-paced environment

 

CLE Coordinator (North America)

  • Create marketing strategy for FLC’s continuing legal education courses
  • Implement strategies to market the CLE courses
  • Place suitable advertisement, attend presentations and communicate with local law firms to encourage participation in FLC’s CLE courses
  • Create and maintain course registration system
  • Communicate with registered participants, manage cancelations and issue confirmation letters
  • Provide regular updates via email and notify the Director of any challenges with respect to the strategic goals

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of marketing solutions
  • Experience developing marketing tools for an organization
  • Experience with community outreach
  • Experience implementing marketing strategies for an organization
  • Ability to effectively communicate FLC’s mission to outside interests
  • High degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and clients
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of organization in a fast-paced environment

 

Business Development Manager (North America)

This is a full-time volunteer position and has potential to develop into a full-time paid position.

  • Create and maintain a fundraising strategy
  • To engage with FLC’s research team in meeting specific project funding objectives
  • To develop a network of funding agencies relevant to FLC’s research objectives
  • To prepare Letter of Intents in collaboration with other FLC team members
  • Communicate with funding agencies
  • Provide regular updates via email and notify the Director of any challenges with respect to the strategic goals

Position Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of fundraising techniques and solutions
  • Experience fundraising for an organization
  • Experience drafting fundraising materials
  • Ability to effectively communicate FLC’s mission to outside interests
  • High degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and clients
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of organization in a fast-paced environment

 

Business Development Manager (Asia)

This is a full-time volunteer position and has potential to develop into a full-time paid position.

Available part-time volunteer positions:

Each part-time position requires a commitment of 5-10 hours per week. Weekly meeting attendance is not required. As a matter of fact, most positions are virtual and work can be carried out from any place.
